By moving the hand of the Clock closer to midnight — the figurative end of civilization — the BAS Board of Directors is drawing attention to the increasing dangers from the spread of nuclear weapons in a world of violent conflict, and to the catastrophic harm from climate change that is unfolding. The BAS statement explains: “We stand at the brink of a Second Nuclear Age. Not since the first atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki has the world faced such perilous choices. North Korea’s recent test of a nuclear weapon, Iran’s nuclear ambitions, a renewed emphasis on the military utility of nuclear weapons, the failure to adequately secure nuclear materials, and the continued presence of some 26,000 nuclear weapons in the United States and Russia are symptomatic of a failure to solve the problems posed by the most destructive technology on Earth.”
The BAS statement continues: “The dangers posed by climate change are nearly as dire as those posed by nuclear weapons. The effects may be less dramatic in the short term than the destruction that could be wrought by nuclear explosions, but over the next three to four decades climate change could cause irremediable harm to the habitats upon which human societies depend for survival.”

The climate change poses as much of a risk to humanity as the potential of nuclear proliferation??? WTF?
YOU’VE GOT TO BE KIDDING? I am a scientist as well and I have analyzed “the data” that the “Chicken Littles” are using to support their theories that global warming is occurring. I must respectfully disagree. We have been monitoring the climate seriously for only two centuries at best. The data quoted is from core samples of ice, the rings from one stump, and the temperature data from major cities.
OK, the ice cores: sediments borne by wind currents can traverse the globe for months at the mercy of the jet streams before they settle. Who is to say EXACTLY WHEN these sediments actually became part of the geological record.
The stump rings: one stump. A very pretty poor sample set for any statistical analysis.
Temperature data for major cities: what do cities have an abundance of? Concrete, asphalt, and metal. Which ABSORB heat, then radiate it back into the atmosphere! WOW! No wonder it’s hotter! We haven’t got the biomass of the vegetation to absorb the heat.
Oh, you say. There’s the reason! Mankind is raping the Earth and eliminating the ability of nature to bounce back from the human onslaught. To a certain degree, but as I stated before, to what do we have to compare the alarmists “data?” Not much!
It is time that the average citizen started asking why serious scietific data is being ignored and scantily supported environMENTAList claims are being shoved down our throats as fact. This is the same as “If it bleeds, it leads” in the media. The more dire the predicament sounds, the more it gets attention.
As for the nuclear predicament, America is one of the only countries that is cautioning the world to limit who has nuclear weapons. If you agree with me or not, the nuclear club was first established to counter Communism. The nations that are trying to bully their way into the club are not looking for equality, they are looking to eliminate a religion, a culture, a way of life.
Yes, they are targeting Christians, Jews, and any other “non-believers” that threaten their chances at world domination. Am I an Islamaphobe? No. Am I a racist? No. Am I looking out for myself, my family, my country, and my way of life? YES!!!
I am not ashamed to say that I am an American. I am not ashamed to say that I am a Christian. I am not ashamed to say that I am a conservative.
I am not afraid to say that homosexuality is wrong. I am not afraid to say that doing things that are illegal is wrong. I am not afraid to say that I believe in “an eye for an eye.”
It is time to stand up for our country and our beliefs before someone else takes it from us and tells us what to believe.
Blaming another for our faults is wrong. “Remove the plank from thine own eye before you point out the speck in thy brother’s eye.”
